First off, we are proud to say,
All of our Balsam Fir Christmas Wreaths are Made in Maine, by Americans!
In this day, even the wreath business is experiencing "Off Shoring" Every year more and more Maine wreath companies (whether big or small) are importing wreaths and tips from Canada. We have nothing against Canada (heck, we have relatives and friends that live there) but we firmly believe that when you buy a Maine Wreath it should be "Made in Maine" by "Americans".
You will find that all of our Christmas Wreaths are of the highest quality found anywhere. Take for example our 26" Christmas Wreath (our most popular size) weighs around 6 to 7 lbs and has a thickness of approximately 6", compare this to the "high end" mail-order wreath that weighs around 3 lbs and is 2 to 3 inches thick, and you begin to see the difference in quality.
For more information on our Christmas Wreath sizes please see Christmas Wreath Sizes and General Details
We do not mass-produce thousands and thousands of wreaths yearly, nor do we stockpile our wreaths; we are a small family business that prefers "Quality over Quantity" and we will stay this way. This allows us to give special attention to every single wreath, to make sure that the wreath you receive is always fresh and of the highest quality. In most cases, your Christmas Wreath is less than 24 hours old when shipped to you.
Our Christmas Wreaths are made primarily from Balsam Fir, hand tied, double sided (except grave pillows), and suitable for outside display (unless noted otherwise). You will find that Balsam Fir is the most aromatic of all the firs. this fresh woodsy scent is sure to fill your home with the aroma of Christmas.
However, there is a lot more involved in the making of a high quality wreath and it all starts literally from the ground up. All of the trees that we harvest tips from are grown right here on our farm. These plantations are used exclusively for balsam tip production.
It takes about 6 years for a tree to reach the right size for tipping, during these growth years and through out the productive period of the trees, the plantations are thinned of all weed trees. As the balsam trees grow, they are high-graded to give only the best quality trees plenty of room to grow. The process of thinning also allows the sun to reach all sides of the tree this produces the beautiful thick crop of tips that our wreaths are known for.
Another measure that is necessary for a quality wreath is that no tips can be harvested until the needles have "set", this means we must wait until the night temperatures have been in the low 20's for a minimum period of 5 consecutive nights. At this time, the balsam fir tree stops growing and goes into dormancy which causes the sap in the trees to go into the ground. This makes the needle's pores form a waxy coating that covers the pores and needle's surface. The cold also causes the needle sacs to contract, which helps holds the needles tight. This measure insures that our products do not shed their needles and last intact well past the Christmas season.
Although this section is a little long winded, we hope that you have a better understanding of what sets our wreaths apart.
We encourage you to compare our products against others.
